10:20 am– 12 Noon: Heikin-Ashi Candles – A different approach to Candlesticks by Bruce Wood.

Thinking points:

Heikin-Ashi Candlesticks look just like normal Japanese Candlesticks, so why are they different?

In the 1700’s when Munehisa Homma developed Heikin-Ashi Candlesticks, what were his objectives in designing a modified version of candlesticks?

Some traders (and in particular FX traders) claim that Heikin-Ashi Candlesticks are a very powerful tool towards identifying the direction of the trend.

In this presentation we will look at how Heikin-Ashi candlesticks are constructed and why they offer a very different approach towards making your trading decisions when compared to ‘normal’ Candlesticks.

Bruce Wood is the current President of ATAA Sydney Chapter and has been a full-time trader on his own account since 2010. He has been trading Rules Based Trading Systems since 2003, and today devotes a significant portion of his working time into designing and the ongoing development of Rules Based Trading Systems.

12:00–1:00 pm: Lunch

1:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Brisbane Chapter’s Annual Meeting

Agenda: A brief summary of the past year, including highlights and achievements. Announcement of the names of members who have been elected to Council for the coming year. Any other matter.

1:35 pm – 3:30 pm: Topic Discussion Groups – ‘members helping members’

Maybe we are not getting as much as we should from our meetings and a member made a suggestion to have ongoing discussion groups where a topic, or subject, can be advanced to a higher level over a period of time and allow members to help members.

This recommendation will be trialed at the November meeting when there will be two discussion groups available – Yes, this does mean each member will need to make a choice of the discussion group to attend. If you really can’t make a decision then by all means share your time between both – the beak will be an opportunity to change.

What is a discussion group? It offers the opportunity for individuals with similar interest to get together to bring up ideas, solve problems or give comments on specific topics. The following are the groups for this meeting:

System Trading: The facilitator will be Kim Sherry and this meeting is to explore whether a discussion group for Systems Trading would garner enough support to continue beyond this initial meeting. To this end we will explore:

  • What systems trading is;
  • How it fits into the ATAA charter;
  • What strategies and instruments fit within the realm of systems trading;
  • What tools are available with examples;
  • Challenges encountered;
  • A simple strategy and back-test.

Candlesticks: The facilitator will be Greg Rowbottom and he will be discussing with attendees how the group should be organized before continuing with the material he used at the huddle during the July meeting.

Each member will get the most out of discussion groups by preparing for each meeting and contributing during the each meeting. The facilitator’s role is not to be a teacher but is to guide the group along an agreed path.

Hopefully we all will get a lot out of this new format.

3:30 pm: Meeting Close
