7:00: David Chia - Trading Psychology
It’s widely accepted in trading circles that the psychology one brings to the market can have a far greater impact on the results than any defined process or methodology one may employ. So why is it that reading a ton of books on the subject and being aware and informed, appear not to translate into better outcomes for so many traders. Amongst the many possible reasons, David contends that many folks may be looking too closely at the knitting, when perhaps taking a step or two back to reassess a few core attributes of markets themselves could permit a fresh engagement. It might just be the reset the doctor ordered.
8:15: David Chia - Insights of a Fund Manager
During the second part of the evening, I will share some personal insights into running a money management business, experiences gained over 3 decades looking at different asset classes and trading over different time zones. Is it easier or harder when it is someone elses’ money? What were some of the mistakes made and what I learnt from making them? And my belief that you will fail in your endeavour if you trade only on the basis of the sum of the wisdom found in all the books you’ve read. Time permitting, it will be insightful to have a quick appraisal of the markets for equities, bonds and commodities and how they have responded to the outcome of the presidential elections in the U.S.A.
David Chia is the principal and chief investment officer of Relate Empower Deliver, a boutique asset manager he founded in late 2007 – a natural progression from a 20 year career in advisory and asset management working for many of the world’s largest banking and investment firms. Formally trained in accounting and economics, he found a passion for trading financial markets and has been a keen advocate of continuing education for investors for close on three decades. In this respect, David has been a regular on the speaker’s circuit for various investment communities Australia-wide.
Having now arrived at the higher side of 60 years, he is all for living a full and totally engaged life; whether it is immersing himself in markets or exploring the boundaries in the realm of personal growth as a man, a father, a husband or a globe-trotting amateur photographer. He is based in Melbourne and deals with clients, both individuals and institutions across the country.
