Discretionary Trading in Mean Reversion: Can discretionary trading be used to improve performance in a mean reversion strategy? Can it be used as an additional filter to give better results? Jim will discuss some of his own experiences in this area.

The trader’s edge: Following on from Jim’s February 2024 presentation on Daniel Kahneman’s bestselling book “Thinking, Fast and Slow”, Kahneman’s ideas on what gives traders an edge, in both trading and life in general, will be discussed. A brief overview of the whole book will be given at the end of the presentation, with the key take-away messages.

6:40 pm to 8 pm – GUEST SPEAKER

Alan Clement – Independent Trader and Strategy Developer

Topic: “The Art and Science of Trading: Crafting a Personalised Strategy Tailored to Your Objectives”

It's a fact that even as systematic traders, it's easy for us to succumb to emotions if we cannot cope with the strategy we've chosen to trade.  So, when embarking on a course of strategy development, how can we be sure that the resulting trade executions will fit with our own personal style and be manageable around our lifestyle and other commitments? In this enlightening presentation, Alan will take us through the steps to quantify our own personal objectives and risk tolerance. He'll then show how once you have these; you can target a particular style of trading strategy that is best likely to match those goals. This can then lead you to develop styles of strategies that would give you a much greater chance of trading them successfully, thus realising a P&L profile close to the systematic outcomes.

Profile:

Alan Clement is a trading strategy designer and independent trader with 30 years’ experience in the financial industry. Following a successful professional career in both investment management and investment banking, he now manages his own independent trading business. He is also an international speaker on evidence-based trading approaches. His main focus is the design and development of quantitative trading strategies that trade multiple markets. Alan is an IFTA Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) and a Director of the ATAA. You can find details on his strategies at https://smartsystematictrading.com and you can follow him on X @helixtrader

The speakers will be staying for dinner after the presentations, and members are encouraged to join them and take part in a general discussion, with both the speakers and other members present.
