Speaker: Robert Brain
Topic: All about ETFs in Australia and their (monthly?) dividends
Over the last 14 months or so, since his last presentation on this topic, there have been several ETFs added into the Australian market for a total today of more than 390 ETFs. Most are available to trade on the ASX; but a few of the advertised ETFs can only be traded “manually” through a real-life broker – like buying and selling units in a managed fund. And an estimate of the total ETF Funds under Management (FUM) in early 2025 was at least AU$250 billion and growing – that’s quite a sum.
The ASX-listed ETFs are offered by several ETF providers. However, when you study some of these ETFs you will find that many are not very liquid. This might not be an issue for some investors, but it is an issue for many investors and traders who are keen to be able to close a position quickly when needed.
Furthermore, if you are looking for a regular monthly income, there are reputed to be around ten ETFs that pay monthly distributions. And some follow specific themes (such as gold, defence, rare earths, developing economies, etc.).
So, how do we find out which ones are “liquid”, tradeable, and investable? Which ones are safe to play with? What sort of thematics do they follow? Which ones offer monthly income payments? Who are the major ETF providers in Australia? Where can we go for more information?
In this session, Robert sets out to answer all of these questions about ETFs, and their dividend payments, and more. And he will give you the insights for more research.
