10:00 - 12:00: Money Management and Stop-Losses – a video by Colin Nicholson
This is a video recording of Colin Nicholson’s presentation on this topic. (Colin as he has retired from teaching trading/investing principles).
Some traders spend a lot of time looking for the perfect entry but little time adequately considering Money Management techniques, often to their detriment.
What is Money management? It is the part of the trading/Investment plan to allow you to protect your capital and therefore optimize your trading performance.
If you don't apply strict money management, you can't win on the financial markets. Managing your risk well means having the right position sizes, knowing how to place and move your stop losses, taking into account the risk/return ratio. Money management allows you to trade without stress. [A quote from www.centralcharts.com].
In this presentation Colin Nicholson covers the following points:
- Two sell-stops;
- Capital at risk;
- Position size calculation;
- Position size examples;
- Sell-stops in action.
Colin and the ATAA:
Colin has been a highly rated speaker at many ATAA and AIA national conferences and has written five books on investing and written for Shares magazine, Smart Investor magazine, The Australian Financial Review, BRW. 12:00 - 1:00: Lunch
1:00 - 2:00: Reading the Charts
Will focus on the ‘Cup and Handle’ pattern.
William J O’Neil’s book ‘How to make Money in Stocks’ was written around this pattern. He saw it as being one of the most reliable to use.
2:00 - 3:00: Using Volume in reading Chart Price Action
Will give an overview of what William O’Neil says in his book (refer above).
On Balance Volume (OBV) indicator is commonly used but Price Volume Trend (PVT), also known Volume Price Trend, might add value. The application of these two indicators will be analysed.
