6.45 to 8.00 pm: Russell Lander, Technical Analyst, Ord Minnett
Topic: “A view of Global markets through a technician’s lens”
In this presentation, Russell will be touching on Australian equities but will preface his remarks with observations on trends in exchange rates, fixed interest returns, commodities and the major share markets abroad.
Russell, writes fortnightly for Ord Minnett under the banner “Market Perspective” and tries to look at the big picture. This is hard to come by in the daily press and is therefore quite popular with advisers who email it to their clients. In saying this, Russell is certainly not boasting in any way – markets are very good at cutting one down to size!
“My next issue will be numbered 560. If I were a bright young man with two sparkling degrees starting out in the research dept. of a broker, chances are that I’d be assigned a handful of stocks to research in great detail. This would involve building intricate spread-sheet castles. The intensity of the work would mean that I could probably cover no more than a dozen stocks. That would be 12 out of 500 in the All Ords Index which is probably only 2% of the global capitalisation of markets.”
“This is extraordinary specialisation indeed. As I have only one (ageing) degree, I would not make the cut but there is interest in a broad market canvas as opposed to an intimate portrait. This is how I justify my existence as the oldest person in Ord Minnett!”
Notice to Members:
Russell’s presentation will have a considerable emphasis on analysing charts and listening to Russell’s commentary on what he sees as being significant. Russell’s presentations at previous ATAA meetings have been very well received by our audience, and this next opportunity to listen to Russell’s current market views and ideas should not be missed!
