Melbourne Chapter, Thu, 18 Jan 2018 at 6:00 pm
January meeting is one week later than normal.
Please note that our January meeting will be on the third Thursday of the month instead of the second Thursday.
Your Networking Opportunities:
A key feature of our monthly chapter meetings in this really good meeting venue is the Special Huddles Networking Session where you have the opportunity to make new friendships with like-minded colleagues, to help you build your skills and knowledge and to improve your trading / investing results. Of course, you will also be able to network with your existing friends and colleagues and talk about the markets — both past market performance, and where the market might be going to in the near future.
Visitors are welcome. First visit free, subsequent visits $40.
All first-time visitors and new members are welcome to join in the “Newbies Huddle” during the networking session. This will provide you with information about the ATAA, and the basics about Technical Analysis, and some tips about going forward. If a member is responsible for signing up a new member, the member can receive a discount off their next annual membership renewal fee (to be noted on the New Member sign-up form).
5:00 to 6:00 pm: Informal Networking Session — Mingling with your colleagues.
ibis Hotel, Level 1, 15-24 Therry Street, Melbourne
6:00 to 6:20 pm: Special Huddle Session — Focused networking so that members can “talk shop” on a particular topic and seek out some great tips and hints. What is your favourite topic? Also the special Beginners and New Members (Newbies) Huddle for the new folk — to help explain about the ATAA, and about Technical Analysis.

6:50 to 8:00pm: Guest Speaker: Robert Brain — Private Trader, Educator and Nimble Short Term Investor
Topic:- Ranking stocks using bullish chart indicator features (Part 1)
Wouldn’t it be good if we could take a list of stocks (your own stock universe), and sort the list so that the strongest performing stocks (ie. the most bullish) are at the top of the list? And then invest in those strongest stocks in anticipation of the best price performance? We could also note the stocks with a low score near the bottom of the list and avoid them or perhaps remove them from our portfolio.
Many people are familiar with the teachings of Stan Weinstein in his book “Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets”. Stan talks about several things, including the importance of the 30 week Moving Average (MA), and noting whether the share price is above or below the MA, and whether the MA is rising or falling. There are many indicator observations like this which we could use to easily identify bullish (or bearish) stocks. But what are they? And how can we use them? Should we use daily charts or weekly? Does this take long to do? Can it be automated?
In this session Robert will describe many technical analysis indicator observations, and a way to attach a useful score value to them, and to subsequently rank a list of stocks by their degree of bullishness. The discussion will also cover the pitfalls to be aware of.
(The Part 2 of this topic which is not part of today’s presentation describes the application of this method using one particular charting software package.)
