6:00pm: Member Speaker Interview: Hugh Smith – Private Trader
Topic: How and What I Trade”
Hugh Smith’s first interest in financial markets was around year 2000 with fascination of the “Dot Com Boom”. He viewed engaging with financial markets as a fascinating and ongoing journey akin to travelling the world with different forms of transport - some slow, some fast, some hazardous. Along the way Hugh has experienced hazards including some that were essentially unpredictable, as is a current scenario where a broker has been placed in liquidation and his funds are frozen. Hugh finds the journey inspiring and engaging, with realization that risk mitigation is a much larger consideration than was the case previously.

Education is very important in his view, and to that end he has attended various training courses that teach the business of trading shares, CFD’s, options and futures. Recently he has spent time developing systematic rule based trading strategies, and he sees that process as ongoing. Hugh believes that being a member of an association like ATAA is a positive catalyst and valuable adjunct to his endeavours.
