6:30 pm: Trading Systems - Richard Dale

Richard will be deep diving into some common trading system biases that present a false outcome for trader performance and he will suggest methods to correct them, using a variety of analysis apps.

Richard Dale has an honours degree in Computer Science and has been trading Australian stocks since 1999 and branched into trading other markets and instruments over the last two decades.  He is also CIO of Norgate Data, a data vendor that specialises in Australia, Canadian and US Stock markets, Futures, Forex and Economic data, that has survivorship-bias free data.   He originally joined the ATAA in 2004.

What you will learn, hopefully not too much at all, as you should know these things.

Falling which, it should assist with continuing attempts towards : ”Straight Thinking and not Crooked Thinking”.

To be illustrated by some chart examples. Plus to consider the aspects of market behaviour and personal psychology in greater depth, as the Third Limb of investing/trading, after Technical Analysis and Risk Management.

As contained in The FIVE FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS stated by Mark Douglas, author of “Trading In the Zone”.

Louis joined the ATAA in the mid 1990’s, attended the IFTA International Conference in Sydney 1997 where he gained the convincing appreciation of technical analysis.

He was born South Africa, gained degrees in law and accounting.

Since immigrating to Australia in 1982 he worked as an insolvency practitioner until retiring around 10 years ago and becoming a “full time” investor/trader.

He is a past president of the Perth Chapter and served as a director on the National Board as treasurer and secretary. For the latter folly he was made a life member of the ATAA.

He commenced trading in 1972 on a very small scale, hand charting a few major indexes and stocks mainly using point & figure charts.

For the past many years he has been managing his SMSF invested in ASX stocks and some USA stocks and ETF indexes. He uses a “long and lazy” trend following system, supported by Share Wealth System’s Beyond Charts software (Gary Stone), including trailing stops.
