Meeting on the second Thursday of the month. Bring a Friend Month (Free for members' friends)
Your Networking Opportunities:
A key feature of our monthly chapter meetings in this really good meeting venue is the Special Huddles Networking Session where you have the opportunity to make new friendships with like-minded colleagues, to help you build your skills and knowledge and to improve your trading / investing results. Of course, you will also be able to network with your existing friends and colleagues and talk about the markets — both past market performance, and where the market might be going to in the near future.
Visitors are welcome. First visit free, subsequent visits $40.
All first-time visitors and new members are welcome to join in the “Newbies Huddle” during the networking session. This will provide you with information about the ATAA, and the basics about Technical Analysis, and some tips about going forward. If a member is responsible for signing up a new member, the member can receive a discount off their next annual membership renewal fee (to be noted on the New Member sign-up form).
5:00 to 6:00 pm: Informal Networking Session — Mingling with your colleagues.
ibis Hotel, Level 1, 15-24 Therry Street, Melbourne
6:00 to 6:30 pm: Special Huddle Session — Focused networking so that members can “talk shop” on a particular topic and seek out some great tips and hints. What is your favourite topic? Also the special Beginners and New Members (Newbies) Huddle for the new folk — to help explain about the ATAA, and about Technical Analysis.
6:30 to 6:40 pm: Notices and Updates with the latest on the Conference starting next WEEK
6:40 to 6:45 pm: Short break
6:45 to 8:00pm: Phil Ruthven AM - Economic Commentator and Chairman of IBISWorld
Topic: "The Economy & Investment Scene, 2018 & beyond"
The World is a strange place these days, with a lot of incompetent leadership and a resurgence of autocracy in some nations. The East has now overtaken the West in GDP, China has overtaken the USA, India has overtaken Japan, and Indonesia has overtaken Brazil, the UK and France. P/E ratios are extraordinarily high – as much due to record low interest rates – but now risky with rising interest rates. Phil will present a lucid picture of where we are at, forecast where he sees us going and how he sees the performance of the investment asset classes over the next few years and the decade we are in. Phil Ruthven is the Founder of IBISWorld, an international corporation providing online business information, forecasting and strategic services to the corporate, government and academic sectors.
Phil contributes regularly to radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and documentaries on business, economic and social issues. He continues to be one of Australia’s most frequent and prolific commentators in demand by the media, and is widely considered the nation’s most respected strategist and futurist on business, social and economic matters.
He addresses about 30-50 congresses, seminars and conferences each year and has done so for three decades. His involvement as a communicator involves much travel.
Phil is a science graduate with further studies in management and economics at various universities and institutes, and was a Rotary awardee to the United States in the late 1960s. He spent over 10 years in the food industry, including executive positions in research, production and marketing, before establishing IBIS in 1971.
Phil is currently an Adjunct Professor at UTS, and a member of the ANU College of Business & Economics Advisory Board. He is a recent past board member of the Melbourne Institute, CEDA and a past Director of Open Family Australia where he continues to help as an Ambassador for Whitelion/Open Family. In 2014, Phil became a Member of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his significant service to business and the community.
IBISWorld is the largest provider of industry intelligence, globally, with thousands of report titles across seven major economies – Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada, China, UK and Germany. In the United States, IBISWorld is also the largest resource of procurement and purchasing intelligence covering the most widely-used product and service categories. As an online subscription-based model, IBISWorld is proud to be the provider of choice to not only the world’s largest and most successful organizations, but just as many in the small to medium space as well. With a repeat subscriber base of business at around 95%, that statistic speaks volumes for the value placed in the IBISWorld companies.
It is a privately-owned company employing close to 500 staff, growing at 20% per annum in revenue.
